Drug Uses
Albenza is a medicine used to treat parenchymal neurocysticercosis associated with active lesions that are caused by larval forms of the pork tapeworm. Albenza may also be used to treat cystic hydatid disease of the liver, lung, and peritoneum which is cause by larval forms of the dog tapeworm.
How Taken
You should take Albenza with food.
Warnings/Precautions
Do not use Albenza if you are pregnant because it may harm a fetus. Monitoring of blood counts and tests of the liver functions should be regularly performed (every 2 weeks) during the treatment with Albenza because of the risk of liver or bone marrow harm. Discuss with your doctor possible harm to a fetus if you plan to become pregnant during the treatment with Albenza or within one month after you complete the treatment.
Missed Dose
In case you miss a dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one.
Possible Side Effects
The adverse effects caused by Albenza are usually mild and disappear without a treatment.
Storage
Albenza should be stored at a temperature between 20� and 25�C (68� and 77�F).
Overdose
An overdose of Albenza requires symptomatic therapy and general supportive measures. Immediately search for medical help if you suspect an overdose.
