Transderm Scop is a medicine used in the treatment of nausea, vomiting and dizziness associated with motion sickness. It falls in the group of anticholinergic drugs. These medicines have multiple functions, for example they decrease the secretion of fluids, slow the stomach and intestine and dilate the pupils.
How Taken
Transderm Scop is a patch and is placed on the skin behind the ear. The patch should be places on a clean, dry and hairless area. At least 4 hours will be needed before the medicine has any effect. The patch is suitable for usage for 3 days. Remove the patch on the third day and throw it away. Wash your hands and the area behind the ear with a lot of water. If necessary, place a new patch of Transderm Scop after you have cleaned and dried the area behind the ear.
Warnings/Precautions
Consult your doctor before taking Transderm Scop in case you have kidney disease, liver disease, an enlarged prostate, difficulty urinating, bladder problems, or glaucoma. Do not take Transderm Scop during pregnancy because it is not know if the medicine is harmful to an unborn baby as it falls into the FDA pregnancy category C. Talk to your doctor before using Transderm Scop if you are pregnant. Also, consult your doctor if you are breast-feeding because Transderm Scop may be able to pass into breast milk and can affect the baby. Transderm Scop should not be used by children because they are more sensitive to the side effects cause by scopolamine.
Missed Dose
If you forget to remove the old patch, do it as soon as you remember and apply the new one on the same place. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the scheduled one. Do no take a double dose of Transderm Scop.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor immediately and stop taking Transderm Scop if you develop any of these side effects: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives). If you have any of the following less serious side effects, continue using Transderm Scop but inform your doctor: drowsiness; dry mouth, nose, or throat; restlessness, excitation, nervousness, or insomnia; blurred vision; dizziness; decreased appetite, nausea, or vomiting; difficulty urinating; or an irregular or fast heartbeat. If you have been using Transderm Scop for more than 3 days and have stopped its usage, you may experience Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, and poor coordination. Other different side effects that are not listed here may also occur. If you notice some unusual effects or conditions, inform your doctor about them.
Storage
Transderm Scop should be kept at a controlled room temperature of 20�C - 25�C (68�F - 77�F).
Overdose
An overdose of Transderm Scop may be signaled by drowsiness, dizziness, agitation, excitability, seizures or convulsions, hallucinations, and death. If any of these effects occur, immediately search for medical care.
More Information
Be very cautious and alert when driving, operating machines or performing other dangerous activities. Transderm Scop may cause dizziness, drowsiness or blurred vision, and if you experience these effects, avoid performing the above-mentioned activities.
