Drug Uses
Ultracet is a pain reliever that is used for moderate and acute pain such as pain after surgical procedures. Ultracet may also be used to treat other types of pain.
How Taken
Ultracet is in the form of tablets and is taken orally with water. You may take it with food or milk to avoid stomach problems. The dosage should not exceed more than 2 tablets at a time and more than 8 tablets a day. Take the medicine exactly as directed because higher doses may cause serious side effects.
Warnings/Precautions
DO NOT TAKE Ultracet IF YOU HAVE HAD SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to codeine. A severe allergic reaction includes a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. Inform your doctor immediately if you experience difficulty breathing, tightness of chest, swelling of eyelids, face or lips or if you develop a rash or hives. Do not use Ultracet for a longer period of time than prescribed because its usage may cause dependence. Be cautious when you drive or operate machinery. You should not consume alcohol during a treatment with Ultracet. Do not combine the medicine with products that contain acetaminophen. Ultracet may cause dizziness; stand up and sit down slowly to avoid it. In case you will have medical or dental procedures, inform your doctor or dentist that you are using Ultracet. Consult your doctor if the following withdrawal symptoms occur: nervousness, sweating, nausea, diarrhea, tremor, trouble sleeping. You should not breast feed during a treatment with Ultracet because it passes into breast milk.
Missed Dose
In case you miss a dose, take the drug as soon as you remember. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed one and take the scheduled one. Do no take a double dose.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the side effects cause by Ultracet should be immediately reported to a doctor:
Rare or unusual: changes in vision; difficulty breathing, shortness of breath; fast or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations (seeing and hearing things that are not really there); not passing urine as often as usual; redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth; skin rash, itching; seizures (convulsions); yellow tint to your skin or whites of your eyes.
Usual side effects: anxiety, agitation; vomiting.
Some of the side effects do not require medical care and attention, but you should consult your doctor if they worsen: constipation or diarrhea; difficulty sleeping; dizziness, drowsiness; dry mouth; false sense of well being, feeling of unreality, mood changes; headache; indigestion; itching; nausea; sweating or flushing.
Storage
Ultracet should be stored at a room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep the medicine away from children. Do not use it after the expiration date.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose, immediately search for medical help. An overdose of Ultracet may be indicated by nausea; vomiting; sweating; difficulty breathing; shallow, weak breathing; and seizures.
More Information
Be very cautious and alert when driving, operating machines or performing other dangerous activities. Ultracet may cause dizziness or drowsiness, and if you experience these effects, avoid performing the above-mentioned activities. Do not take other medicines which contain acetaminophen (Tylenol, pain relievers, cold and flu medicines, others) while you use Ultracet. Large doses of acetaminophen may be harmful. Avoid the usage of sleeping pills, tranquilizers, sedatives and antihistamines because they may enhance the drowsiness caused by Ultracet.
